Dandruff, Any Cure?
Dandruff Remedies

Now I’m not a magician so I won’t sit here and tell you I have a magical potion that cure and put an end to all the dandruff issues in society, but I will give you a couple of options to hopefully give your scalp some relief!

What Causes Dandruff?

There a number of reasons an individual can get dandruff! In most cases it’s a microbe issue called “Malassezia Globosa”. This microbe will feed off the natural sebum found on your scalp and this causes your scalp to become dry and irritated. In attempt to remove these irritations your brain sends signals to your scalp to shed, thus dandruff!

Some other leading causes to dandruff can be hormones, allergic reactions, not rinsing shampoo from your scalp properly, product build up and many more other reasons. I personally have known a few girls who struggled with dandruff and when they gradually eliminated the causes, it came down to being allergy to an ingredient in a shampoo! So before you run to the doctors office try a elimination process and see if you can get down to the leading cause of your scalp flaking.

How Can I Eliminate this Issue?

Remember, I didn’t promise a miracle, but I have a couple of remedies that I’ve put together for my guests. I also would recommend trying the more milder routes before jumping into the more aggressive ones.

Essential Oils

Come on you knew it was coming! I love my oils, I can’t help it! In fact I wrote an entire Blog Post about which oils are the best for your hair and scalp, so I’ve linked it here for you.

My top 3 oils for a healthy scalp would be Lavender, Tea Tree, and Peppermint. Lavender helps to calm and soothe an itchy and dry scalp. Tea Tree helps to balance the scalp and kill any fungus or bacteria that could be causing the scalp irritation. Peppermint will help to stimulate the scalp by increasing the blood flow to your scalp thus increasing your hair growth and scalp health.

Scalp Treatments

I offer full scalp treatments as an add on service to any appointment. These scalp treatments take about thirty minutes and will leave your scalp feeling fresh, invigorated and flake free.

I begin by using a bristle brush to scrape the flakes off the scalp. I know it sounds gross but trust me it feels amazing! Then I follow it up using the Biolage R.A.W. Scalp Care Rebalancing Oil. I massage it in for five whole minutes to help stimulate the scalp and allow for even distribution throughout the head. After this has sat I then Shampoo and Condition with Biolage R.A.W. Scalp Care Shampoo and Conditioner.

Most of my guests have found that with continuous treatments their scalp gradually began to feel less irritated and signs of fewer flakes. I have linked all the products if you prefer to do this treatment in the comfort of your own home.

Have you Considered Clarifying?

A lot of times that I see any issues with the scalp it’s due to a build up of either Hair Products or Shampoos. It’s always a great idea to have a clarifying shampoo in your shower to use every couple of weeks to remove any of this build up. Also make sure to rinse the product thoroughly from your hair. You can do this by separating the hair in the shower, scrubbing your scalp as you are rinsing and make sure there are no more suds coming out of your hair before you move onto conditioner.

Amika Reset Scalp Cleanser

Another way to cleanse your scalp is by using a scalp cleanser! I recently discovered a magical product by Amika called Reset. Reset is a scalp cleansing oil that detoxifies the scalp, helps hydrate and encourages a healthy scalp. As we all know, I wear hair extensions and sometimes my scalp will get itchy and flakey because I can’t cleanse it as I normally would with all of the wefts in there. Anytime I move my extensions up I have my Hairstylist use this product on me and I am obsessed! It feels so fresh and clean!

In Conclusion…

I hope that you find one of these tips helpful and are able to find some relief! Just know that you are not alone in your struggle with dandruff as this is something that many people deal with on a daily basis. If you however have any concern that your scalp flaking may be more than just dandruff, see your doctor so that they can properly diagnose your scalp and give you a more medicated product to help! As always, if you have any further questions, please leave them in the comments below!

XOXO,

Shelby Alexandra
