How to Make Your Very Own Flower Crown!
Flowers for Flower Crowns

With Halloween around the corner, I felt that it was the perfect time to teach you how to make your very own Flower Crown. I have used Flower Crowns for events all year around; from parties to costumes and sometimes just for fun photoshoots. In fact, I’ve made these so many times that I actually found the simplest route and I wanted to share it with you all. So let’s begin!

What Supplies do I need?

Supplies are minimal and you can buy a lot of it at a great deal! I personally spent less than $30 Dollars making my Flower Crown for my Halloween Costume this year and most of the supplies I already had at home.

What you will need:

  1. Flowers - I purchased my bundles of flowers at a local Dollar Store. Spent a whole $7 dollars and I was able to find multiple colored Sunflowers.

  2. Hot Glue Gun and Sticks - I had a glue gun in my closet already but had to pick up new sticks. I purchased my Glue Sticks at michaels for $5.99 and you can purchase Hot Glue Gun’s for as low as $6.99.

  3. Wire Cutters - If you don’t already own a pair of these, they are wonderful but are one of the more expensive items for this project. You can purchase your own here.

  4. Stretch Headbands - I found my headbands in the Hair Boutique section in Michael’s Craft Store for less than $10 Dollars. Unfortunately these were not linked online, but you can grab these at any local beauty supply store or drug store in the Hair Accessory isle. Mine was no smaller than an inch thick.

Let’s get Creative!

You now have all of your supplies so let’s get to the fun part and start making our beautiful Flower Crowns!

How to Make a Flower Crown

Step 1:

Grab your bouquet of flowers and use your wire cutters to begin trimming the flowers off their stems. Trim them as close to the flower head without removing it completely, this will avoid the flower from falling apart. Feel free to trim some leaves to add into the mix if you’d like! Then take all of your flowers [and stem pieces if you chose to add these] and lay them out in the pattern you want for your Flower Crown.

Step 2:

Take your Stretch Headband and lay it flat on a surface that you don’t mind getting hot glue all over [I used a cutting board]. Plug in your Hot Glue Gun and load it up with one stick. Once it has heated up completely begin adding glue around the bottom of the flower.

Step 3:

Once glue has been applied to the bottom of your flower, quickly stick your flower to the stretch headband. Press the flower into place! This is a very quick transfer because the hot glue will begin to harden rapidly!

Step 4:

Once the glue has hardened, add glue around the edge of the underneath part of the flower to ensure the flower stays in place. Continue adding your flowers until you reach your desired look. I placed my flowers fairly close to each other because I was looking for a “fuller” look. I also only did flowers around the frontal portion of the band so the flowers didn’t move when I stretched it out, if you prefer to have them all the way around just be careful when placing it on your head or use a much strong glue!

The Final Look

The whole process is as simple as that! I added in leaves for mine just for extra umph, but having only flowers is just as beautiful.

In Conclusion…

I absolutely love creative projects and this one is one of my favorites because it’s not only super easy but Flower Crowns can be used for so many different occasions. They can even be a fun excuse to get together with the girls for a craft night! If you decide to create a beautiful Flower Crown I’d love to see what you design and how this tutorial worked for you, so leave me a comment below!

XOXO,

Shelby Alexandra
